Industries Stress Relief Pads are made from special non-asbestos, resilient,
high-temperature materials. Non-combustible and chemically inert, they
provide temporary insulation of welds during stress relieving of large
diameter piping, ducts, vessels or tanks. Available in 12”, 24” or
48 ” widths
and 1”, 1.5”, 2” thicknesses.

Welding often requires the precise monitoring of temperature to ensure that
the heating and cooling of metal is done in a gradual manner that protects
the integrity of the material. After a weld, the welded metal’s temperature
is naturally different than the surrounding metal. The stress relief process
creates a consistency in the metal structure cooling process.
During stress relief, a thick insulation blanket is placed around the welded
portion of metal. Once peak temperature is reached, it is maintained for
a set period of time defined by the thickness of the weld, which strengthens
the bond.
The metal is then slowly cooled down to ambient temperature. Temperature
changes during both heating and cooling must be carefully controlled. Too-quick
temperature change could cause the metal to become distorted and later develop
cracks that could lead to failure.
Wilson Industries offers blankets that provide an excellent stress relief
solution.
